Book Nook: The Joy Plan

No matter where we are in life, we often have a plan for the next big thing - or little thing. We plan our calendars, our kids' education, our careers, our marriage....but that plan doesn't always workout as we expected, as Kaia Roman found out. She cofounded a business, an effort that was her biggest plan, and when it collapsed, it crushed her, leaving her with no plan to move forward.
She decided to make a change, leaving behind stress and anxiety, and instead focusing on joy. I love that focus. We never know what's going to happen with our plans. Don't get me wrong, it's good to have them, and even back-up plans. But we also need to be focused on what's truly important. Living with joy can change everything about how we look at the world, and as Kaia found out, have lasting impacts.
I had a chance to review The Joy Plan, part memoir and part self-help book. It incorporates a lot of research into hormones, mindfulness, and neurotransmitters, and provides a strong reminder to dedicate oneself to joy every day - not just happiness, but joy. It's a positive, uplifting book that encourages readers to improve their outlook, no matter where on the joyfulness spectrum they are.
